Takashi Murakami (born 1962 in Tokyo) is a contemporary Japanese artist, painter, sculptor and designer. Lives and works in Tokyo and New York.

Known for blurring the line between elite and mass art. Takashi coined the term "superflat", describing both the aesthetic elements of the Japanese artistic tradition and the nature of post-war Japanese culture and society, and was also used in the artistic style of Murakami and other Japanese artists whom he influenced.

Takashi Murakami is one of the most successful contemporary Japanese artists. His diverse work spans art, design, animation, fashion and popular culture.
