Bottex Seymour Etienne

Seymour Etienne Bottex (1922-2016) – haitian artist.

Bottex was born in Port-Margaux in northern Haiti and worked as a photographer until 1955, when his older brother Jean-Baptiste encouraged him to take up painting. He joined the Art Center and later the Issa Gallery in Port-au-Prince. His paintings, which combine humorous, historical and biblical themes, are exhibited around the world and sold at Sotheby's in New York. He is considered one of the finest Haitian naive artists, and his frescoes in the Episcopal Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Port-au-Prince are considered the most important achievement in Haitian modern art.
