Yaroslav Seleznev (born in 1979).

After graduating from Art School in 1993, he continued his studies at Saint Petersburg State University. He further enriched his artistic education by taking contemporary art courses from MoMA (New York) on the Coursera platform, as well as at the PAIDEIA School of Contemporary Art in Saint Petersburg.

He began his career as a figurative painter, specializing in monumental painting. Among his notable achievements are the decoration of the “Chapel of the Book” in Saint Petersburg and the Paslepa Castle in Estonia. His artistic research soon led him to move away from figuration toward a more experimental visual language, nourished by American and Japanese abstraction, minimalism, and calligraphy, which became key elements in the development of his style. While he remains attached to the power of the image, he now practices in a way that embraces painting, drawing, sculpture, and wall-based artworks.

In 2022, he became a member of the Union of Artists of Russia and the Union of Abstractionists of Russia. A laureate of several international abstract art competitions, he regularly participates in solo and group exhibitions in Russia and abroad.

He has taken part in more than 30 group exhibitions.

His works have been shown at the New Tretyakov Gallery, the Erarta Museum, as well as in Malaysia, China, and India. In 2024, the Artarea.doc collective produced a documentary film devoted to his creative process.
