Lumina Wang (born in 1984, Taiwan) – a Taiwanese visual artist and actress.
Passionate about dramatic arts and mythology, her unique world is recounted through symbolic signs and a dramatic narrative. A playful ambiguity pervades her paintings: a deliberately naive language used to address complex and psychological subjects, such as family secrets, nostalgia or childhood traumas, hidden or embraced femininity, relational interaction, passion, and all forms of love and sexuality. Rich in metaphors and sensuality, each of Lumina Wang’s paintings represents a newly created story or myth.
In a liberated and intuitive way, she paints by following her unconscious and her primal instincts, even though, at a certain point, she is able to analyze her aesthetic choices, such as the nature of the colors used or the characters depicted, ultimately connecting all these submerged elements to describe a concrete story.
“This artist effortlessly appropriates elements and offers a tender and instinctive interpretation of the world. She presents a personal vision that falls within the realm of outsider art.”
Angélique Ceccarello, art critic
“Drawing inspiration from her subconscious, the artist tells stories and myths in a naive and childlike aesthetic that contrasts with the complexity of the subjects she addresses. Approaching painting as a psychoanalytic process, she oscillates between figuration and abstraction, delivering a highly personal body of work, poised between expressionism and symbolism.”
