Piegza Ryszard

Ryszard Piegza (born in 1954) – is a sculptor, a graduate of art academies in Poland and France, a filmmaker, creator of video works and spatial installations, and above all a performer who has lived permanently in Paris since 1982.

In 1979-1982, he led the formation of the Lingua Embassy . In 1988, he founded Wizya Video Art Action, a center dealing with the organization and documentation of artistic meetings and activities in the field of performative arts. He is also a co-founder of the artistic collective Flying Carpet. Since 1991, he has been working on the project „Paintings remembered”. He is the author of the film “Performer’s notebook”’, created in 1997. In 1998, together with Michel Giroud and Charles Dreyfus, he co-organized the international conference Dada – Fluxus. He is also a co-creator of the „Interakcje” Art Festival, which takes place annually in Piotrków Trybunalski. As an artist, regardless of the circumstances and proportions constituting the substance of action, he strives to free himself from stillness by creating interactive relations between objects and people, images and words. In his geometric realizations there is always some intrigue, a separate story. From considering the laws of statics, their rules and inconsistencies, to political or existential aspects.
