Jerry Schatzberg

Jerry Schatzberg (born 1927) is an American photographer and film director.

He worked as a photographer for magazines such as Vogue, Esquire and McCalls. Schatzberg's most famous photograph is the one on the cover of Bob Dylan's album Blonde on Blonde (1966).

Schatzberg worked for some time as a television commercial director. In 1970, he made his debut in big cinema with the film “The Mystery of the Illegitimate” with Faye Dunaway. He went on to direct films such as Panic in Needle Park (1971), which starred Al Pacino. Schatzberg's film Scarecrow was released in 1973 and was presented at the Cannes Film Festival that same year, where it received the Palme d'Or together with Alan Bridges' The Hired Man. His film Street Boy was released in 1987, starring Morgan Freeman. For this role, Freeman was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor.

He was a member of the jury at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
