Christian Lacroix

Christian Marie Marc Lacroix (born 1951) is a French fashion designer. Founder of the haute couture house Christian Lacroix.

He studied at the University of Paul Valéry, Faculty of Art History, working on the theme of costume in eighteenth-century painting, and was also interested in studying the work of costume designers in cinema. Intending to become a museum curator, he moved to Paris in 1973, where he began studying at the Sorbonne at the Faculty of Art History and the Louvre School.

He started working as a designer of shoes and accessories and tried his hand as a fashion critic. In 1978 he was hired by Hermès, and in 1980 he became an assistant at Guy Paulin. In 1981, he joined the house of Jean Patou. In 1987, with the financial help of Bernard Arnault, he opened his own fashion house. From 2002-2005, without leaving his own home, he was artistic director of the Emilio Pucci house.
Since 2006, Christian Lacroix has been chairman of the board of directors of the National Center for Stage Costume in Moulins.
