Ekaterina Shchepina (b. 1987) is an artist whose works are in private collections in the USA, Germany, Great Britain, Poland, Austria, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Israel, Italy, France.

"As an artist, I am primarily interested in the construction of a composition, the interaction of local color spots with spots containing ornaments. An important quality of a painting is the integrity of not only color, but also the unity and subordination of details, lines, shapes of spots. I attribute my work more to color graphics than painting, color for me is one of the motivators for writing this or that work.Since graphics often require a flat local spot, this influenced the choice of materials with which I work: acrylic, tempera, markers.

The psychological environment of an adult is differentiated into layers - planes of reality and planes of irreality (hopes and dreams). The transition from one plane to another is possible, especially when the plane of reality becomes too tense. My picture becomes a game experiment that allows me to explore my experiences more deeply, to understand myself. My real life is prosaic - family, home, work. Therefore, the game is for me a way out of the ordinary. I am trying to cope with the psychobiological stress that my relatives put on me, sometimes my life seems to me to be eventless, but as an artist I am free to generate my own worlds, trying on different roles and exploring different identities. My works are games of dressing up, a stabilizing mechanism for saving oneself, a remedy for burnout, they are also a way to maintain inner balance. I place myself in different circumstances, playing with social, gender, subcultural roles.

I give special preference to an interesting costume, when the clothes are no less eloquent than the character's face. The hero is immersed in the environment of color spots, the environment of ornaments and prints. When drawing them, I not only experience the effect of replacing the plane of reality, but also completely abstract from it, imagining myself as something third - not myself, not a character from the picture, but a symbiotic organism.
